Bearys Group celebrates Graduation Day 2026; speakers urge graduates to embrace AI, uphold human values

Mangaluru: Bearys Group of Institutions celebrated Graduation Day 2026 on Saturday at Bearys Knowledge Campus (BKC), Lands End, Innoli, near Mangalore University, marking the 14th graduation ceremony of Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), the seventh of Bearys Enviro-Architecture Design School (BEADS) and the second of Bearys Institute of Emerging Sciences (BIES).

During the event, the Bearys Centre for Innovation and Incubation (BCII), established to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, research and technology-based start-ups, and the Drone Technology Centre of Excellence and Prototyping Lab were also inaugurated. The facility aims to provide students with hands-on training in drone technology, opportunities for prototype development and research, and exposure to entrepreneurial activities involving unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies.

The event brought together graduates, faculty members, parents, alumni and institutional leaders to celebrate academic achievements and inspire students to prepare for emerging opportunities and challenges.

Dr. Pramod Kumar, Professor and Chair of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Energy Research (ICER) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, was the chief guest. Prof. B. Ravi, Director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Mangaluru, delivered the graduation day address. Prof. Dr. Jaffer A.A. Khan, Director of RICS at B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, inaugurated the new BEADS building, Alpha. The programme was presided over by Syed Mohamed Beary, Chairman of Bearys Academy of Learning.

Addressing the graduates, Dr. Pramod Kumar spoke about the industrial revolution and the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI). He observed that the AI-driven industrial revolution would be much larger in scale than previous transformations and emphasised the need to understand how humans can adapt to and coexist with AI.

In his graduation day address, Prof. B. Ravi highlighted three major challenges confronting society: AI, engineering and the media. He urged graduates to preserve empathy and other human qualities while adapting to AI, retain their curiosity to become better engineers, and develop independent judgement in an increasingly polarised media environment.

Referring to the influence of media on public opinion, he cautioned against judging people solely on the basis of what others tell us. He encouraged the graduates to preserve their ability to think critically and make their own assessments.

Prof. Ravi also commended the remarkable work undertaken by Syed Beary in building the Bearys Group.

Prof. Dr. Jaffer A.A. Khan highlighted the remarkable development of the Bearys Group over the past century and expressed confidence in its future. He said the group had bright prospects and expressed hope that it would grow into a university in the coming years.

Emphasising the importance of collaboration in the built environment, he said architects and engineers should work together rather than operate in isolation.

Presiding over the ceremony, Syed Mohamed Beary shared lessons on faith, integrity, responsibility and professional excellence. He described prayer as a powerful source of strength and urged graduates to make God their friend and partner in life. Encouraging them to remain open to the possibilities of life, he said life was full of miracles and asked them to seek and interact with God.

He stressed the importance of truthfulness and trustworthiness, urging the graduates to ensure that their actions matched their words. He also encouraged them to leave behind a meaningful legacy through their work and to pursue excellence consistently.

Speaking about social responsibility, Syed Beary said individuals should contribute to society rather than leave the responsibility entirely to institutions or organisations. He advocated the concept of Individual Social Responsibility (ISR), which he contrasted with the American style of corporate social responsibility (CSR), and emphasised the principle that giving should precede earning.

He further urged the graduates to become job providers rather than job seekers, expressing confidence that the 21st century belonged to India.

Dr. Manjur Basha, Director of Bearys Knowledge Campus, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. C. Kamalakannan, Principal of BIT, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Pooja and Joyson Miranda compered the programme.

Abdul Rahman Beary, President of Bearys Group of Institutions, Kodi, Kundapur, and Dr. Asif Beary, Trustee, were among those present.
