Rain likely in coastal districts during evenings, nights over next 3–4 days

Mangaluru: Coastal districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Kasaragod, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, are likely to receive rainfall during the evening and night over the next three to four days, according to the Meteorological Department.

The northeast monsoon became active over South Karnataka on October 15 following the official withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. Surface cyclonic circulations over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have contributed to the current weather conditions.

Widespread rainfall was recorded across several regions on Thursday, with Kapu, Udupi, Karkala and Beltangady taluks among the affected areas. In Mandya district, Pandavapura taluk witnessed intense rainfall, with Lakshmisagara recording 158 mm.

Dakshina Kannada, Kasaragod and Udupi are expected to experience cloudy conditions during the day, followed by thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Uttara Kannada is likely to receive showers at night.

In the Malnad region, Shivamogga, Kodagu, Hassan and Chikkamagaluru are expected to witness cloudy skies and evening thunderstorms. Heavy spells are likely around Kodagu, Charmadi, Kudremukh and Agumbe.

Heavy rainfall is also forecast in Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts. Moderate showers are expected in Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Mandya, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere and Vijayanagara. Wet conditions are likely to continue in these regions until October 22, particularly in districts bordering Tamil Nadu.

Ballari, Koppal, Haveri, Gadag, Dharwad, Belagavi and Bagalkot are expected to experience cloudy evenings and regular thundershowers through October 20, with scattered rainfall likely to continue until October 22.

The Meteorological Department said cyclonic circulations near Kerala and the Tamil Nadu coast would keep weather conditions active across South India over the coming days. A depression is also likely to form over the Arabian Sea around October 22.
