Bhimatira six-murder case: Prime accused shot in leg by police, arrested

Vijayapura: Mahesh Talwar, the prime accused in the murder of six people in the Bhimatira region, was arrested by Chadachan police after being shot in the leg during an operation.
The case relates to the murder of six people, including five members of the Nirale family, near Govindpur village in Chadachan taluk on May 29. Police alleged that Mahesh Talwar and his associates had accepted a contract worth Rs 15 lakh to carry out the killings. Talwar had reportedly organised a group of youngsters for the crime and had been absconding for the past 23 days.
Acting on information that Talwar was hiding on the outskirts of Ittangihal village in Tikota taluk, police launched an operation to trace him. When officers moved to arrest him, he allegedly pelted stones at the police and attempted to flee.
According to police, Chadachan CPI Parashuram Managuli fired at the accused's right leg to prevent his escape and bring the situation under control. He was subsequently taken into custody.
During the incident, police personnel Shekhar Pawar and Vijaykumar Banasode sustained injuries and were admitted to Vijayapura District Hospital. Talwar, who was injured in the firing, was also admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
Senior police officials, including Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi, visited the spot.
Further investigation is underway.
