Plans on to develop Namma Guide website, App to boost Karnataka tourism

Bengaluru (PTI): The Karnataka Tourism Department is contemplating creating a new online platform, 'Namma Guide', to develop the state tourism sector and provide world-class facilities to tourists, officials said on Tuesday.

The services of local guides are crucial in providing accurate information about the history, culture, and significance of the respective areas to domestic and international tourists visiting any tourist destination in the state, they said.

Officials noted that at present, in foreign countries, there are systems where tourists can easily book their preferred guides online.

The primary objective of the department is to launch a similar state-of-the-art online platform in Karnataka, they said.

According to officials, the department will create a new dedicated website and mobile application.

"This new online platform will make it convenient for tourists to easily connect with local guides and explore tourist spots properly and meaningfully," the Tourism department said in a statement.

It will also help guides actively participate in maintaining the cleanliness and proper management of tourist locations, it said.

Additionally, this initiative will generate more employment opportunities for the guides already registered with the Department of Tourism, officials said.

To realise this project swiftly, the department said that it is taking necessary steps to invite tech-savvy organisations, including startups within the state, to participate in its development.

"The role of our local guides is paramount in elevating the state's tourism to international standards. Modeled after foreign systems, the 'Namma Guide' website and app will be developed to enable tourists in our state to access guide services easily and transparently," Karnataka Tourism Minister K J George stated.

According to him, in addition to providing tourists with excellent information and a superior experience, the new initiative will provide greater strength to the cleanliness and maintenance of our historical and natural sites.

Talented startups in the state will be given the opportunity to build this innovative platform, he added.
