Raichur: Semi-nude body of 22-year-old girl found in Sirawar; family suspects rape, murder

Raichur: The body of a 22-year-old Dalit young woman was found in a semi-nude state near a well located on the outskirts of Hokrani of Sirawar taluk in the district on Thursday morning.

The body is identified as that of Ashwini Chalavadi and it is suspected that she was raped and murdered, followed by her body being dumped near the well.

Ashwini is learned to have gone out of her house to answer nature’s call at around 7 o’clock on Wednesday night, but did not return home. Worried, her parents searched for her all night, but could not find her.

On Thursday morning, however, Ashwini’s corpse footwear and clothes were sighted on the steps leading to the well near Hokrani. A pair of men’s footwear was also seen here, giving rise to the suspicion among the family members that Ashwini was raped and murdered.

Sirawar Police Station, under whose limits the incident occurred, got the youngster’s body shifted to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital for a post-mortem test.

Superintendent of Police Arunangshugiri led the police team to the place where the body was found, for an investigation of the crime. The dog squad was also used during the probe.
