New Delhi: WhatsApp has rolled out a major update designed to make calls more organised and engaging. The new features allow users to schedule one-on-one or group calls in advance, set reminders, and send invitations directly to contacts or groups.
The update also enhances in-call interactions with a “raise hand” option to signal speaking turns and emoji reactions for quick responses without disrupting the conversation.
The improved Calls tab now displays all upcoming calls with participant details. Users can share invite links, while organisers receive notifications when someone joins. All calls remain protected with WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption.
To schedule, users can open the Calls tab, select a contact or group, tap Schedule Call, and choose the call type, date, and time.
The update is aimed at both personal and professional use, helping users plan and manage conversations more effectively.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp’s India Monthly Report revealed that over 98 lakh accounts were banned in June to curb misuse, including nearly 19.79 lakh accounts proactively blocked before user complaints.
